UK Based Web Hosting & Reading, Berkshire Development Team
Red Balloon host WordPress sites on UK platforms and manage them with our in-house development team in Reading, Berkshire. Our services include server hosting, security patching, regular backups, routine technical maintenance, minor content and development updates and helpdesk support. Our aim is straightforward: minimise downtime and technical risk while keeping your site fresh and working for your users.
Common website management and hosting problems we solve:
- • Sites breaking during plugin or core updates.
- • No predictable maintenance schedule or unclear update ownership.
- • Lack of visibility into performance, uptime and security posture.
- • No local support or slow response to urgent issues.
We reduce risk by combining secure UK-hosted infrastructure, a documented maintenance schedule and a simple monthly support model so your site is looked after.
What’s included in our hosted website packages
These core features are taken from our standard hosting & maintenance agreements.

- → Regular backups and tested recovery procedures to restore services if needed (snapshots and point-in-time recovery available for VPS customers).

- → A named RB account contact for management, planning and escalation.

Compliance & data
- → Advice and remediation for GDPR and data-protection issues affecting the site.

Product Content Updates
We allocate time each month for small product/content updates (design or development tasks). This is not for large projects, but for routine website upkeep.
We track and report time each month and, where the retained hours are used up, we agree any additional work before it proceeds.
How we work
Onboarding & Security Setup
We gather all required access, configure hosting and development environments, and put essential backups and security measures in place.
Scheduled Updates & Maintenance
Regular security patches and plugin updates are carried out, with testing in the development environment where needed.
Ongoing Support & Edits
Requests are submitted via our support channel, with smaller updates handled within your allocated retained hours.

Reporting & Forward Planning
Monthly reports are provided alongside a short review call to align on priorities and plan the upcoming work.
Larger Changes & Project Work
For more substantial updates, upgrades or new features, we provide a clearly scoped estimate along with a separate timeline before any work begins.
Hosting, Security & Service Levels
Service Levels & Support Response Times
We aim to be clear and reasonable about response & availability:
- → Small updates: we aim to respond within 24 hours and schedule the change within 72 hours where possible.
- → Urgent incidents: prioritised and worked on immediately; our target is to take action within 24 hours for issues causing immediate disruption to the live user experience.
- → Availability target: we operate a quarterly availability objective (example commitment used in our enterprise retainer example is 99.7% availability per calendar quarter — service credit terms are applied if we miss this target). If you’d like formal SLA language for your contract we can include it.
Website Backups, recovery & continuity
We run regular backups and maintain a robust recovery plan to restore services in the event of data loss or server failure. Backups are an essential part of our hosted service and are routinely tested as part of the maintenance process. If you have specific backup retention or RTO (recovery time objective) requirements, we’ll document them in your onboarding.
Security & compliance
Security is central to our hosting approach. Typical measures include: firewall protection, intrusion detection, regular patching, .htaccess and header-based protections, disabling file edits inside WordPress and advice for plugin licence management. We’ll also advise on and support GDPR-related items that affect how personal data is handled on the website. These protections are implemented alongside our RB developer processes and WordPress update flows so you get a consistent, auditable approach.

Management and Hosting FAQs
The retainer covers hosting, regular patching, backups, security maintenance and small content or development tasks within your monthly hours. It does not include large feature development or full redesign projects – those are quoted and scheduled separately. It also excludes long-term historical data recovery outside the agreed backup window unless we explicitly agree to it during onboarding.
